Camilo Riano, DDS
Dr. Riano comes to us from Bogotá, Colombia. He received his DDS degree from the Universidad Javeriana in June 1991. The Colombian government requires a one-year internship in a community hospital or a six-month internship in an isolated region of the country. These areas are poor and lack access to technology and proper materials or instruments. He did his government required six-month internship in a small town fifty miles south of Bogotá. After the internship, the Jesuit school’s faculty selected Camilo to work on a one year research project to establish the first genetic map of the indigenous populations of Colombia, mostly in the jungles of Colombia.

In 1996, Camilo earned his MS in orthodontics from the Universidad Militar in Bogotá and then started a private orthodontics practice. While in private practice, he taught genetics at the Universidad Javeriana, was an assistant professor in the orthodontic diagnosis clinic, taught clinical photography, and authored two chapters in a book called America Negra, published by Universidad Javeriana. In June 2003 Camilo received his second D.D.S degree from the University of the Pacific in San Francisco through the International Dental Studies (IDS) program where he learned and shared experiences with 13 other students from a variety of countries.

Curently Camilo works in his own orthodontic practice in San Francisco 3 days a week, the rest of the time he associates in other offices in the Bay area as an in-house orthodontist.

Camilo and his wife, Anne enjoy many activities together, but their favorite is to camp with their three kids, Maria Camila (8 ), Sebastián (5), and Pablo(3). Camilo also enjoys Marathon running and rock climbing.

He is a member of the following organizations:
University of the Pacific Alumni Association, American Dental Association, California Dental Association, World Federation of Orthodontists, Colombian Association of Orthodontists.

The extensive training takes five years to complete, requiring 500 hours of course study in specific dental disciplines, and a comprehensive written exam. Cosmetic dentistry will not last unless it is built on solid principles of restorative dentistry.

Intravenous sedation dentistry and oral sedation dentistry are both available for apprehensive patients and for patients undergoing long procedures. As an evaluator for the California State Dental Board, he has been using this modality since 1983.

Dr. Wayland is one of the most experienced cosmetic dentists in the United States. His first set of porcelain veneers was done for his sister in 1984 and they still look natural and beautiful. Since then he has done thousands of various cosmetic procedures. He is an international lecturer on cosmetic dentistry.
